OMG! What a great place for a summer vacation. I have always wanted to visit La Costa Resort and Spa as a friend used to be the head golf pro there and continually sang the resort's praises.
So when I saw an email with a great package rate including golf credits, spa credits and a per diam meal credit, I was there.
Just a 3and 1/2 hour flight from Atlanta, the weather of San Diego at a constant average of 70 degrees, La Costa is a short drive up I-5 to Carlesbad. Nestled in the canyons just off the coast, La Costa is a sprawling campus of over 500 guest rooms, two very famous golf courses and a golf academy, a 17 court tennis center and Junior Tennis Academy, a fitness center and athletic club offering a whole menu of classes daily, The Chopra Yoga Center, and a wonderful spa which has on accolades world wide. Best of all there are pools for adult, pools at the spa, and pools for kids.
There is a total of 7 pools including 3 waterslides and a beach for kids (even big kids if you like).
This resort was created by Beverly Hills architect, Edward H Fickett in 1965 in a Spanish/Mexican style which is so popular on this side of the country. Not only did he create at 48,000 ft clubhouse, but also a spa that was considered by some to be the best-equiped and largest spa in the world. Located on itw own private 22 acre spread, it accommodated 150 guests an hour. The entire resort covered more than 400 acres of gardens, golf coures, homes and the spa. It was the hotest new resort on the west coast.
Today it is still a great place for families. There are all kinds of things for adults to do all day long and as part of a $50,000 renovation in 2006, a 6000 sq ft childrens and teen facilities were added along with Kidtopia - a Club for kids, and Vibiz - Teenspace with X-Box games, music, bowling, billiards, and more. There is now a shopping Marketplace with shops and even a Starbucks.
There is also 100,000 sq ft of meeting space, so all in all, it is an odd comibnation of business types, golfers, hip young people from all over California, and families of every size and description.
I have seen two meetings, a golf tournament from Japan, a Bar Mitzvah and three weddings since I have been here. This place is "happening!".
This is one great resort for every age....and I am loving it. What a great place for my next family reunion! Well, I'm going to think about that later. Right now I am off to their premier award winning restaurant , Bluefire Grill. Yum....more later after desert!
