Move forward several (read many) years and here I go again.
I love London. I always have such a good time there. I know so many people and have friends in good hotels there. Matter of fact I am staying at my favorite (and the favorite of the Queen who has tea there a lot)...The Goring. I am terribly excited, as I usually put guests there as they have wonderful rooms, a lovely garden and best of all.....super service.
So...I am off...visiting friends and relatives(well removed) in Bedford....attending Burns Night (annual celebration of Scottish poet Robert Burns) at a local restaurant, and getting to see the show Billy Elliot which I have been trying to see in New York for several years.
I am Scottish by decent (of the Clan Macdonald) and so going to purchase a kilt or scarf with my tartan so I can be appropriately dressed for Burns Night. The Menu is inclusive of Haggis.. I do love it...but it must be because of my Scottish heritage as the rest of the world thinks it awful. My menu consists of that and of Scottish Salmon (wonder what the difference is between Alaskan and Scottish?)...and of course a 'wee dram "of whiskey or two (read Scotch -Yum!).
Aside from that, I am looking forward to doing the London Eye (giant Ferris wheel overlooking London) and shopping for McVitties Biscuits ( my favorites) and other British goodies that I love but cannot find in the US.
Total excitement. I board my flight in an hour and I get there in the morning. I will be back on Monday night. This is just enough to re-acquaint me with the wonders of this fabulous city.
